Benefits of Green Tea

green-tea.jpg image by MargheritaDaisyGreen tea contains polyphenols and catechin. Both these substances help keep the body healthy, fight off infections and prevent rheumatoid arthritis. What really sets green tea apart from other teas is its epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) content. This antioxidant effectively inhibits and kills cancer cells. Green tea is thus effective in preventing cancer. By lowering blood cholesterol levels, it also reduces the chances of stroke and heart attacks as we age. This is why the Japanese, who drink a lot of green tea, have low incidence of heart disease even though 60 percent of the Japanese population smokes cigarettes.

Green tea also flushes out toxins from the body and is effective in colon cleansing. Drinking two to three cups of green tea each day keeps the colon cleansed and detoxified.

Green tea is helpful in controlling weight and is popular among dieters. It is a great alternative to coffee for it increases body metabolism and stimulates the mind, without extra calories and with only minimal caffeine content.

If you want to live a healthy life, start with a cup of green tea today.
